Toronto Cypress

A civic reporting platform where Toronto residents pin potholes, broken street lights and graffiti on a map and track the fix.

Overview

A platform that makes it simple for residents to tell the city what's broken, and to see that something is being done about it.

The problem

Reporting an infrastructure problem often means a phone call or a form with no follow-up, so residents rarely know if anything happened.

What I did

  1. 1.Integrated the Google Maps API, kept secure on the server side, so residents can pinpoint the exact location of an issue.
  2. 2.Built report submission with descriptions and photos, and a personal dashboard to track each report from pending to resolved.
  3. 3.Added an admin side with metrics, status updates, notes and a city-wide map with color-coded markers and filters.
  4. 4.Supported dark and light mode and full mobile layouts.

Results

  • A live, end-to-end prototype for both residents and city staff.
